A vampire that doesn’t drink blood? It’s really not what I had hoped for to be sure. I guess I am prejudiced, being Anne Rice’s fan with a preconceived notion of what a vampire should and should not be. I generally love the darker genre and I’m kind of disappointed that Stephanie Meyer’s vampires were not dark, sinister or even evil. In short, they have too much conscience for a soulless creature.
But I would still give credit to Stephanie Meyer. The main character is extremely compelling and the protagonist is so consumed with her crush on that she blocks everything else. Stephanie is a young adult writer so I shouldn’t complain about the teen angst and some cheesy lines. Its teenage romance with a twist as the protagonist is in love with is a vampire. It may appeal to teenagers who reads fantasies and darker books, but might also catch the attention of those that enjoy a more realistic fiction like Gossip Girl……
* Note: below contain spoilers for Twilight and New Moon
Twilight allows the reader to experience a whole new outlook on vampires and how they interact around mankind. Of course, personally I don’t think any vampire could be better than Anne’s Rice Vampire Lestat. But I think, the vampire, Edward Cullen, is captivating in his own ways; extraordinary beauty, ancient genteelness, mystifying and of course the ability to read minds. In a way, the book was more than I expected; the love feels so real, and at its heart, it's more a love story between two beings than anything else.
As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. The Twilight saga continues in New Moon. Shakespeare was probably an inspiration in this book as Stephanie often quotes Romeo and Juliet and comparing Edward and Bella with it. In this continuation, Edward leaves Bella, leaving her heartbroken and without hope. With only time on her hands, she develops her friendship with Jacob Black. The middle section is a rather slow, as Stephanie introduces another new mythical creature, werewolf. However, it still page turning as you are kept anxious about the ending. When will Edward come back? Well for Edward’s fans, it’s really a bummer since he only reappears at the very end.
New Moon ended at a cliffhanger; Bella has to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob and her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampires and werewolves. But Bella has got an even more significant decision to make: life or death. Which will she choose?
I shall let you know after reading Eclipse.

What the hell? After months of waiting, you give me this entry that makes no sense to me? Common lah.... blog about something I know like soccer or computer games.... :P
Anyway, I just learnt a new word today. Its called "Schadenfreude" (German). Check out the meaning and I think you will like it (there's even an entry in WIkipedia for this word)
I'm proud to say that I don't need to wikipedia this. I learned it from a series, Boston Legal :)
Since you like the word, you may enjoy this...
"To feel envy is human, to savour schadenfreude is devilish.
